Fun, Free, and in Perth! – A Sporadic Mini-Series: The Introduction

Hello, adventurers, list-makers and dreamers. This is a series for you!

Fun, Free, and in Perth!

Fun, Free, and in Perth!

Everyone has a “one day I will” list, whether it’s written down or filed away in your mind-palace. The fantasy of places to be, moments to experience, details to see. The hope that one day our feet will fulfil the fantasy.

We are drawn to the mystique of what lies overseas. It tempts us with promises of colour-filled cultural diversity. Yet lesser-known are the journeys waiting just shy of your door. Journeys that fit that same, tempting description.

There are so many hidden corners in the places around us, niche worlds that operate within but independently of our day-to-day lives. They are so easy to pass by. I have made it my mission to keep open eyes and explore the secret surroundings of life in Perth.

On a uni-student budget, I will delve into different events, activities, and nooks in and around this city. How? By attending the advertised happenings we ignore on billboards and leaflets, by following whispered stories, and by learning as much as people will to share of their lives and hobbies.

At the end of the day, it is not about where you physically go, but about how you see the world. Of course, we always entertain an extensive “one day” list, but for the possibilities in Perth or wherever you are, why not construct a “this day” list?

So let’s see where it all takes us!

As the great Dr. Seuss wrote:

“Congratulations! Today is your day!
You’re off to great places, you’re off and away!
You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”

It doesn’t take an airplane to let your feet find the fantasy. Let journeying be more about choosing the direction than running off to faraway places. I hope you have fun exploring the worlds around you as I will in Perth. I look forward to sharing these itty bitty (or not so!) adventures together, in the “Fun, Free, and in Perth!” articles to come.
